This paper deals with the communication process in students with severe cerebral palsy in whom there is a combination of severe mental, communicational and physical disability. It defines the basic terminology, some core concepts and describes selected findings of a qualitative study based on open, axial and selective coding. This paper describes the main categories and subcategories of the study regarding communication reactions of students, communicational topics and some of the factors that enhance good interpretation of the communication process. It also incorporates a visual diagram of a model for communication processes between teacher and student and discusses various aspects of this model, suggestions for special education practice and for further research.
